Actually I don't think I'm a Hipster but when your daughter comes home from Manhattan and tells you "Mommy you're the original Hipster" it must be true! She quoted: Hipsters are a subculture that value independent thinking, counter-culture, progressive politics, creativity, intelligence, and witty banter. They reject the culturally-ignorant attitudes, and are often be seen wearing vintage and thrift store inspired fashions. They tend to be well educated in fields creative analytical thinking...

#SelfiesAreOkAtAnyAge Challenge: Central Texas Small Business Owner Maliss K Scott
No REALLY selfies are okay at any age today! They are actually a requirement to interact in the current culture at an appropriate level. Not just teenagers, famous people, and President Obama. If I can do it you can do it too! And you NEED to do it, not your food, or your pet, not even your kid, take a picture of you! My Challenge to you is to take a selfie (do I really have to remind you keep it clean?!?!) and send it to me with permission to post it and I will send you a free digital copy of my book about SEO. MalissaKnows@gmail.com
I'm the absolute worst at them, it amazes me what my twin 5 year olds can accomplish with an iPhone much less my teenage daughter. It comes to them naturally, they are Technological Natives and I am just an Immigrant (thank you Dana Booth for that perfect description).

Live Music Scene Austin TX: A Throw Back to the Original, Loan Officer Malissa K Scott SNMC
Tomorrow Kanye West will preform to close out the X-Games, that is SO Today's Austin. And to quote Seinfeld "There is NOTHING wrong with that". But how many of you wonder where the Original Austin Music disappeared to? The Beer Gardens with local artists just looking to enjoy the night and play music to cleanse their souls of the tours they've exhausted themselves on. Isn't that how Austin Texas became synonymous with Willie Nelson and Stevie Ray Vaughan?
Guys there are still plenty of venues you can enjoy Austin's Original Music Scene. Recently I was privileged enough to receive an invite out to Twin Creeks Music Hall to experience what brought the masses, they have an Open Mic every Sunday at 5pm. Twin Creeks is a laid back, one of my favorite parts was the NO FISHING sign, necessary because I could count the Bass, Capri, and Perch as they swam around in the crystal blue creek just a few dozen feet away. Look at the Red Solo cup... the bottle of Local Shiner Beer... the Musician's Playbook... the Beautiful Blue Sky... and that Amazing Caterpillar. That is AUSTIN. Even better the music collaborated by random local artist who collectively enjoy the opportunity to be what they love, pure and simple.
I won't lie to you, hands down my FAVORITE part was somehow at one point as I walked towards the stage and I heard "I always knew God was a woman, but I just never knew she was a Red Head!" ... Well that will charm any girl!

Austin Shoe Hospital: Just another perk of living in Austin Texas! by SNMC Loan Officer Malissa K Scott
Reason #247 to appreciate living and working in Austin Texas, my shoes have more lives than a cat thanks to the Austin Shoe Hospital. In our disposable culture it is refreshing to be able to extend the life of things I love and what Girl doesn't love her shoes!
I take my babies to the location at 6781 290 West, Austin TX 78735 phone 512.288.6387 where Emilio Carrizales takes them in well worn & broken and gives them new life... and in this case a new sole! Actually look at the unique shape of the heel, they were able to customize the piece and it didn't cost me an arm and a leg. Emilio has worked for the Austin Shoe Hospital for over 7 years and I am always confidant my shoes are in the best hands in town.
I feel like I have the same opportunity as a Loan Officer. Every week I'm introduced to an individual who has heard NO from other banks and loan officers, more often than not I am able to find their YES . There is not a lot more gratifying then sitting at the closing table when my clients are handed the keys to their new home. I work at Security National Mortgage Corporation and we have programs that surpass the average bank. Residential, True Green Lending, Construction, Land, and Commercial. Buying a house for yourself or an investment property, I can help get those keys in your hands.

Buying a Car Like a "Girl"... and coming out smelling like... NEW CAR! and again finding myself an "Accidential Hipster" with my Micro Car Scion iQ: by Malissa K Scott
I'm not joking... I bought a car "Like a Girl".
I know right! How many of you are offended by that statement? What does it mean to buy a car like a girl? And by the way it is also TOTALLY another "Accidental Hipster" event in my life.
Here she is, my Scion iQ, my Micro Car. It is the essence of what makes an Austin Hipster uber Cool right now. Don't fear for my safety, with her 11 air bags she turns in to a marshmallow if an accident occurs.
She reminds me of Troll dolls in the 1980's, so ugly she is the cutest thing around. So... getting back to the original statement "I bought a car like a girl". How on God's green earth did girls get such a bad reputation for purchasing things? This Scion iQ makes my 21st negation to purchase a vehicle, and I've never walked away with a "bad" deal.
Psst... don't tell the Car Salesman out there, but the 1st car I ever purchased, I negotiated such a phenomenal deal the dealership sent an employee over 500 miles and across state lines with an "alternative" car to swap with me. How do you think that worked for the Dealership? 10 years later 3 other members of my family owned and enjoyed that car.
With that I'm saying "Buying a Car Like a Girl" has meant the best deal going in my 20 year experience . Buying this Scion iQ from Austin's Toyota Auto Nation has lived up to my standard. However what I mean by the expected standard of buying a car like a girl... I pulled into Toyota 6:30pm Easter Eve... my 1st dealership and really just maybe thinking about looking... stated I don't know what I want OH! that's cute let me drive it... then bought it... no research. My sales team Jeff & Todd sent me home that night with the ability to bring her back on Monday and walk away from the deal they offered me. 36+ hours to think over and research.
Just WHAT DID I DO? I bought her, and used Austin's Toyota Auto Nation's Finance Department although I went to my AMAZING bank Randolph Brooks Federal Credit Union and was pre-Approved at the exact same interest rate I was offered. But my Finance Guru at Auto Nation Jeremy added real value to using his department and I walked out with a 125,000 mile bumper to bumper warranty. My 1st time in 21 transactions to purchase this, and trust me when I say a win win situation for me. Door handle, radio, latch, side mirror motor gives out... no deductible... no parts... no labor...
SO... when I say "I Bought a Car Like a Girl"... I'm saying a I received the best deal that dealership was offering... I made friends... and I left with a new member of my family (that for the right price I will sell her to you in a heartbeat).
If you think I'm solid negotiating car deals I've done 1000's more mortgage loans. I always look out for the best interest of my client and work every deal just as if it was for myself (because at the end of the day "being a girl" means making sure people are taken care of in the right way). What Makes You a Hipster in Austin Texas? The Best Hair Salon Benjamin Beau
I can't even begin to tell you how often I'm such an Accidental Hipster and my hair Salon is no different. Benjamin Beau Salon has been taking care of me for nearly 2 years and as with most of the things in my life I inadvertently feel into their greatness here in Austin Texas.
Those who know me realize what a challenge I am with my "Crown & Glory" and at this moment collectively feel bad for my Stylist Nicole Casadei. It's true the 1st time I walked into the Salon with my Groupon my hair was down to the middle of my back, hadn't been cut in probably over a year, and I was totally "I don't care what you do just make it different". And that they did! My fist bob in over a decade, and it looked phenomenal.
Nicole took on styling my hair during the period of growth I had NEVER enjoyed and always dreaded, I told her that the first visit, and she still choose to let me be her client. The only direction I had for Nicole was "Just don't make me look like a POTATO" . I explained to her my National Sales Manager Dana Booth and his daughter work hard to one up each other with Text Abbreviations. One night when he was headed out she told him "Dad don't be a POTATO" That is People Over Thirty Acting Twenty One. Nicole didn't miss a beat and said "Well I didn't even know you were POT (People Over Thirty, don't feel bad for her she's not going to hell for lying, it's part of her job to make us feel beautiful.) She then preceded to give me the best haircut I can remember every receiving or ever enjoyed.
One of the other things that make me that nightmare client is that I only tend to get my hair cut every 4-6 months, and always a last minute call for an appointment. Saturday not only did I have to reschedule because I managed to get myself halfway to the salon without my wallet but when she found me in her chair my best direction to her was "I don't really want a haircut but I figured you'd fire me as a client if I came in one more time for a bang trim".
While it's true that I look like a million bucks thanks to Nicole my 2nd most favorite part of having my hair done at Benjamin Beau is the Scalp & Neck massage they give you with every cut. Yes they do! And let you enjoy a glass of wine if that's what you are into, and NO kids (not that I've seen anyway).
Do yourself, or someone you love, a favor and call and book an appointment with Nicole today. Regardless of if you KNOW you are a Hipster, or don't wanna be one at all there experience is one you will want to repeat.
